Faces come in all shapes and sizes, each wearer needs to be supplied with a face-piece which matches their facial features. Fit testing demonstrates how well a face-piece matches the individual’s face. It is used to select a facemask which is a good match for them. HSE’s relevant Approved Codes Of Practice (ACOP) require that face-fit testing is to be carried out as part of the initial RPE selection process, to ensure that the wearer has the correct face-piece.
QUANTITATIVE FACE FIT TESTING
Professional Safety Services (UK) Ltd only provides quantitative face fit services which involves the use of our PORTACOUNT PLUS RESPIRATOR FIT TESTER 8040. Combined with our particle generator and various adapters, it is able to test most face-pieces. We DO NOT use the qualitative methodology, which is a pass/fail test for tight-fitting respirators (like disposable and half-face masks) that uses the wearer’s subjective taste of a harmless aerosolized challenge agent to determine if the face seal is adequate. Note that for disposable respirators/ half-masks only, during the testing process we will puncture a hole in the respirator for the test tube to enter which will require the respirator to be disposed of at the end of the procedure. This does not apply to reusable respirators / half masks.
